How do I use the Cyprofil Collagen products?

Cyprofil Dressing

  • Ensure the wound has been irrigated and is free from all necrotic tissue and debris, it is free from infection and exudate levels have started to decrease.

  • Apply with the porous collagen surface to the wound bed, with the mesh facing upwards away from the wound. Can be cut to size.

  • Cyprofil Dressing may be applied dry to moderately exuding wounds, however for dry or minimally exuding wounds, Cyprofil Dressing may be hydrated with sterile normal saline, before application, alternatively use a hydrogel to maintain a moist wound environment.

  • Cover with a secondary dressing, bandage securely and change as necessary, approximately every 6 days.

  • Once healing has taken place, and the collagen appears to have been absorbed the nylon mesh can be easily removed.

Note:

  • Cyprofil Dressing may be cut to size.

  • Topical medication may be applied to the wound bed before applying Cyprofil Dressing if needed.

  • If wound exudate is sufficiently heavy to require more than a once daily dressing change, consider using Cyprofil Particles.

  • If the wound develops signs of infection or deterioration remove the dressing and reassess.

Cyprofil Particles

  • Ensure the wound has been irrigated and is free from all necrotic tissue and debris it is free from infection and exudate levels have started to decrease.

  • Sprinkle Cyprofil Particles to lightly cover the wound surface 2mm – 3mm layer, to allow for expansion.

  • For undermined wounds Cyprofil Particles can be mixed with sterile saline or hydrogel at a ratio of 2:1 to form a paste.

  • Cover with a secondary dressing and bandage securely.

  • The frequency of application of Cyprofil Particles after cleansing the wound with sterile saline can initially be done on a daily basis and then reduced to once in 2-3 days depending upon the stage of the wound healing.

Note:

  • Cyprofil Particles may be mixed with sterile saline in a ratio of 2:1 and made into paste or solution
  • Cyprofil Particles can be used daily or up to every 3 days for the first 10 – 14 days

  • If the wound develops signs of infection or deterioration remove the dressing and reassess

Cyprofil Film

  • Ensure the wound is free from all necrotic tissue and debris it is free from infection and exudate levels have started to decrease.
  • For use on dry or low exudating wounds.
  • Apply the Cyprofil film directly to the wound bed, cutting to fit if necessary.
  • Cover with a light secondary dressing and secure in place. Bandage and change as necessary, approximately every 6 days.
  • The transparency of the Cyprofil Film allows regular inspection of the wound.
  • The Cyprofil Film will degrade within the wound.

Note:

  • Cyprofil Film  may be cut to size.

  • If the wound develops signs of infection, irritation or deterioration remove any remaining dressing and reassess.

  • Not intended for use on infected wounds.

Cyprofil Powder

  • Remove the applicator cap simply by pulling it away.

  • Use suction or gauze to remove excess blood from the bleeding surface so that Cyprofil Powder may be applied directly to the site of active bleeding or oozing.

Note:

  • Not intended for use on infected wounds.

  • Not intended to treat systemic coagulation disorders or when origin of bleeding is unknown.

  • Immediately apply the necessary amount of Cyprofil Powder at the site of bleeding within the wound, as close to the source of bleeding as possible. Deep wounds may require equally deep application of Cyprofil Powder.

  • In the majority of the wounds there is no need to apply direct pressure over the treated site. Occasionally, depending on the nature of the wound, direct pressure may be necessary for approx. one minute. Amount and duration of pressure is wound dependent. In case of more profuse bleeding wounds, pressure should be maintained longer.

  • Avoid any material (i.e., surgical glove, sponge, etc.) adhering to the newly formed clot and use gentle methods to remove clot or gauze. If any material adheres to the clot, irrigate the  material with saline and remove it from the treated site.

  • If bleeding (or oozing) continues, remove excess Cyprofil Powder and reapply.

  • Immediately upon contact with fluid, Cyprofil Powder will absorb approximately 30 times its weight.

  • Once haemostasis is achieved, excess Cyprofil Powder can be if required carefully removed by irrigation with saline or using a gauze swab.
